Timber-Framed Brew-Themed Outhouse: Where Craftsmanship Meets Creativity

When we got the request to build a timber-framed, beer-themed outhouse, we knew this project would be anything but ordinary. Combining rustic, hand-crafted timber construction with quirky brewery elements allowed us to create a unique structure that reflects both the charm of natural woodwork and the fun spirit of craft brewing. Here’s how we brought this one-of-a-kind outhouse to life.

Timber-Framed Construction: Built to Last

The foundation of this outhouse is all about traditional craftsmanship. Using mortise-and-tenon joinery, we framed the entire structure with carefully selected timber. The heavy timber beams give the outhouse a solid, rustic feel while showcasing the beauty of the natural wood grain. Used updated timber lock screws to combine technology with tradition.

To add character, we left some of the joinery exposed. The frame is topped with a simple pitched roof, which not only complements the timber design but also allows for good ventilation—essential for any outhouse! The timber frame ensures this structure will weather the elements for years, aging gracefully like a fine brew.

Repurposed Beer Kegs: Sink & Urinal with Style

One of the highlights of the project was incorporating old beer kegs into the design. The client loved the idea of reusing these kegs, and we were excited to make it work. Here’s how we did it:

  • Keg Urinal: We plasma cut off the top of a stainless-steel keg, polished the inside, and mounted it at the perfect height. A copper pipe fitted through the back serves as the waterline for the drain. With some clever plumbing, the keg urinal functions flawlessly and adds a whimsical touch to the outhouse.

  • Keg Sink: For the sink, we took another keg, cut it in half, and fitted it with a drain and faucet. We mounted it on a reclaimed wood vanity to blend the industrial look with the natural timber theme. The faucet is even a true beer tap handle, reinforcing the brewery-inspired design.

The combination of metal and timber gives the interior a unique vibe, combining rustic charm with quirky industrial touches.

Creative Beer-Themed Details

The client wanted the beer theme to be present throughout the outhouse, and we took that challenge to heart. Beyond the keg features, we added a few fun, creative touches:

  • Bottle Opener by the Door: A wall-mounted bottle opener and a small shelf nearby for holding drinks mean that visitors never have to part with their beverages.

  • Vintage Wort Paddle Door Pull: The entry door features a vintage wort paddle as the door handle, completing the theme with a fun, functional accent.

  • Reclaimed Wood Shelves: Inside, we added some shelves made from reclaimed wood to hold extra rolls of toilet paper—because even an outhouse needs storage!

  • Beer Foam Toilet Seat & Lid:  To go along with the theme we found a perfect brew throne for one to sit upon that looks just like a freshly poured brew.

Blending Form and Function

The real challenge with this project was finding a balance between form and function. We wanted the outhouse to be fully operational and comfortable, while also making sure it reflected the client's fun vision. The timber frame provides structure and durability, while the beer-themed details bring a light-hearted, creative twist.

A Fun and Functional Final Product

The completed brew-themed outhouse is more than just a restroom—it’s a quirky retreat that reflects the client's love of craftsmanship, creativity, and craft beer. This project was a blast from start to finish, giving us the chance to blend traditional timber framing techniques with inventive, beer-themed elements.

Whether visitors are stopping in for a quick break or just admiring the craftsmanship, they’re sure to leave with a smile—and maybe even a newfound appreciation for the art of outhouse design. Cheers to creativity!
